Mommy? Sorry. Mommy? • From Drew Barrymore and Natasha Lyonne announcing they are bisexual icon Aubrey Plaza’s Mommy and Daddy, to Sarah Paulson and Pedro Pascal utilising their Saturday Night Live sketch to humbly accept their roles as society’s mommy and daddy, this year we’ve been spoiled with our fave celebs soothing all our mommy/daddy issues. The viral TikTok sound (“Mommy? Sorry. Mommy?”) originated in 2021 and has consistently been repurposed in lesbian thirst traps and all over Queer-Tok. With the rise of mommification of our favourite queer celebs and LGBTQIA icons, you might be asking yourself, who is my mommy? Well, look no further than this quick and fun quiz.

The life-changing magic of bi style • It’s August 2010. I’m just eight years old and running around my grandparents’ garden. My clothes are like a uniform specifically designed for effortless movement on this hot day. Knee-length cargo shorts, red Converse and my favourite T-shirt from the boys’ section of Next. Until recently, it’s possibly the least self-conscious I’ve ever felt dressing for summer.

Gender stereotypes are ruining everything for everyone • One day, my mum came into my room, picked up a beautiful candle that had been gifted to me by a friend, smelled it and said, “This is so nice.” But she quickly changed tack once she realised it was “a man’s scent”. Suddenly, she was confused about why I liked the candle. And so, like Carrie Bradshaw, I couldn’t help but wonder… how did we get to a point in society where even scents were being gendered?

All we had was us, together • In 1995, I visited my first gay bar in Pittsburgh – adivey, neon-drenched, perfect spot where a gorgeous drag queen complimented my lips and a dapper drag king said he’d blow up his life to take me out. This moment introduced me to the love, beauty and belonging offered by queer people. The queer solidarity that drove the fight for LGBTQIA rights, from the Stonewall riots to the struggle for marriage equality, has had a significant impact on me. The friendship shared between gay men and lesbians, despite our unique challenges, is a testament to the power of solidarity.

BRAT LOVES JUDY

How to date a drag king in 10 ways or less ...because this is 100% satire • Drag is hot. Drag kings… even hotter. As a king-dating expert – aka someone who almost successfully kind of dated two (once) – I’m here to help you get a date with drag’s hottest kings.
