THE LNER IN COLOUR • The London & North Eastern Railway, if not the wealthiest if the 'Big Four', was arguably the most colourful with its apple green livery for its passenger locomotives and garter blue for its streamliners, then later with its desire after the drab wartime years to return to these colours as widely as possible. THE SCOTTISH QUARTET • For a period from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s the Scottish Region of British Railways delighted enthusiasts by restoring to working order four historic preserved locomotives from the pre-grouping companies and using them for hauling special trains. These colourful locomotives were photographed on their travels by GAVIN MORRISON.
